Trainee Resources

Individual Development Plan

As mentioned on our ‘Program’ page, all graduate trainees are expected to complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP) as part of their membership to this program. Aside from tracking research achievements and skills development, this IDP helps trainees supplement their education and better prepare them for the next steps in their career.

Completing the IDP is a required part of graduate membership to AML-TN. Following NSERC’s reporting deadline, and in line with our program deliverables, we request that trainees submit their completed IDP by August 1st of each year. Please follow the link below to get started.

Research Mobility Program

The research mobility program is a central function of the Advanced Machine Learning – Training Network. We encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange not only within our different UBC groups, but with the global Machine Learning community. With a combination of financial, in-kind, and joint institutional support, we aim to expose trainees to new perspectives to further their development.

Trainees, and their supervisors, have the choice to facilitate their own research stays (backed by this program) or request the AML-TN team to facilitate the research stay on their behalf. Trainees should fill out one of the two mobility claim forms below, in order to begin this process.

Undergraduate Research Award

AML-TN sponsored internships highlight the value we place on developing young researchers, as the next generation of machine learning specialists. We expect undergraduate trainees to be at least in their 3rd year of studies, when they take on a summer research project. The principle investigator leading the research project must be an AML-TN collaborating faculty member, a comprehensive list can be found here.

All undergraduate research awards have a value of $5,000, to be used towards funding an internship. Additionally, this award offers undergraduate trainees exposure to all educational activities and opportunities of this network.
