AML-TN offers multiple ways to engage with world-class research while developing skills that extend beyond the classroom. Students gain funding, mentorship, and training that help them grow their expertise, build connections, and advance their careers. Recognizing the challenges individuals face in STEM, AML-TN makes a conscious effort to promote Diversity in Machine Learning. Our application process dedicates a subset of funding for individuals who self-identify as being from underrepresented or marginalized groups.
Graduate Students
Graduate students can participate in AML-TN in two ways:
Funded Trainees
- $15,000 in award funding, complimenting their student salary, with additional support to participate in the Research Mobility Program.
- Awards are distributed yearly, with applications accepted in early fall.
Mobility Awards
- Funding and support through out Research Mobility Program.
- Applications are open year round, with a rolling deadline.
Undergraduate Students
Our undergraduate research award (URA) offers $5,000 in funding to support students in the early stages of their careers, allowing them to contribute to collaborative research projects and gain valuable experience.
URAs are distributed yearly, with applications open in early spring for summer research projects.
Eligibility
To be selected for the AML-TN program, you must be:
- An active UBC student
- Supervised and recommended by AML-TN faculty
All graduate students are expected to engage in skills development, which encourages them to collaborate, innovate, and apply their research in practical settings. To compliment their degree and prepare for their future, undergraduate students are also welcome to participate in these activities.
